The SGTO have been guiding people with Universal Credit claims. We have organised
several training sessions for the tenant’s movement through the DWP on a range of welfare
issues. Many TRAs were represented including (Acorn Estate TRA, Millpond TRA, Brunswick
Park TRA) to name but a few. We Provided support to a tenant rep who is supporting a
neighbour with Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for her disability. Helped a tenant
apply for Mutual Exchange and as a result someone has registered an interest in the
tenant’s property. Arranged emergency homeless support for tenant who is 25 and sofa
surfing, tenant accepted as homeless and now accommodated in temporary
accommodation, Homelessness prevented.
We also helped a tenant who is in a 2-bedroom property with 2 girls 21, 19, and a boy 16.
Spoke with Housing Officer and asked that the family be referred to the social welfare
panel. This was refused. Tried to refer to Southwark Law Centre but as the tenant is not
statutorily overcrowded and they are expected to use the sitting room as a bedroom, the
tenant has been encouraged to use her mutual exchange.
Tenant to access Mutual Exchange and speak to her MP to see if they would refer her to
the Social Welfare Panel to assess if tenant is entitled to Band 2.
