To find out how people who use the Old Kent Road feel about its future, SGTO spoke to Kehinde Taofeek,
a Southwark resident and school boy.
Bio: Give a little bit of information about your self and how you use the Old Kent Road at the moment
My name is Kehinde Taofeek. I’m in year 10 and I’m 14 years of age. I attend the secondary school of Walworth Academy which is actually in: The Old Kent Road. I travel to school by using the bus 1 then walk onto Old Kent Road to get to my school. Sometimes on the weekend, I do shop at the Tesco in OKR. Apart from those two things I do not use the Old Kent Road that regularly unless I’m travelling to Oxford Circus and Westminster with the bus 453.
What does regeneration mean to you?
Regeneration means to me that any part of the world that is not exactly in a good place or people are not liking where they live and the environment as a whole, drastic changes will take place; either benefiting people or detriment people.
Do you know what it is?
Regeneration is where something gets redeveloped to put it back to its old form or even better than it previously was.
Has there been any specific focus on it in your school?
I do not think there has been specific focus on regeneration at my school or there has not been any depth on the matter.
How do you think you should be engaged with about regeneration?
I think that I should be at least a big part of regeneration as it will affect me and others around my age and younger if it takes place. When we are all older, it may affect a lot of us in all sorts of ways that may change our lives for the long term.
What would you like to see at this age in any regeneration?
Regeneration will take at least approximately 10 years, so at this age in any regeneration I would like to see that homes are affordable for a lot of people, more schools and better education, better ways and service in transport, but most important of all; that most people in the community are more than happy with the regeneration.
Do you think there is proper transport on the Old Kent Road at the moment?
Apart from cars and buses on the Old Kent Road, no, there is not sufficient enough transport on the Old Kent Road.
Do you welcome the idea of a tube line and will you use it often as a local resident?
I do indeed welcome the idea of a tube line as it will provide better transport and a better way to get to places quicker. As a local resident, I may actually use it often as The Old Kent Road already connects many places together via buses.
