SGTO’s Core objectives are as follows:
- We exist to promote the rights of tenants and residents and to empower them through training to help them take control of their housing needs and improve where they live and their environment.
- We are here to help extend the right of all tenants and residents in Southwark, to participate and be consulted in the formulation of Council polices on housing and associated issues, and to be represented on all matters and policies that involve tenants and residents and their homes.
- We exist to train tenants to be confident and aware of the local authority consultation structure and know how they can participate and have their opinion represented.
- We are here to provide a resource centre and support to Tenants and Residents Associations across the London borough of Southwark, to encourage and support the formation of new representatives and democratic tenants and residents groups.
- We are here to promote the harmonious functioning of a multi-cultural community and to work towards the elimination of all forms of racism and discrimination within our community.
- We are here to provide adequate facilities that include all sections of our diverse community, and address areas of exclusion due to language barriers, disabilities or similar issues.
- We are here to work with and support the inclusion of Homeowners and residents across the borough.
- We are here to improve networks between all residents through representatives and inclusive forums whilst working in partnership with other voluntary and statutory organisations who share our objects, interests and aspirations.
- We are committed to regular monitoring and evaluation of our services to ensure desired impacts, development and growth of SGTO in the years to come.
- We are committed to raising the profile of council housing as desirable, accessible, well managed and maintained housing sector.
- In carrying out these objectives, we’ll ensure we have an accountable, corporate and transparent management and staffing structure.
